ABOUT MATTHEW
Matthew Meloney is a Colorado-based drummer known for his versatility, deep pocket, and genre-spanning approach behind the kit. He began playing drums at age 13, cutting his teeth in indie rock and heavy metal bands while performing at venues throughout Northern California. Alongside his early band experience, Matthew studied upright bass in symphony orchestra and sang in chamber choirs, building a strong foundation in ensemble performance, music theory, and dynamics. These formative years took him from iconic San Francisco stages such as Slim’s and Bottom of the Hill, to Carnegie Hall in New York City with symphony orchestra, and on tour through Northern France with chamber choir, performing in cathedrals including Notre Dame and Abbey Mont-Saint-Michel.
In 2017, Matthew relocated from California to Colorado and joined the reggae band Stylie, a pivotal chapter in his musical development. With little prior exposure to the genre, he immersed himself in reggae’s rhythmic language, quickly locking into the pocket and helping drive the band’s growth. Stylie went on to perform at major festivals including Reggae Rise Up and tour extensively throughout the western United States.
Today, Matthew continues to perform and collaborate across a wide range of musical settings. In addition to drumming for Stylie, he currently plays Americana rock with the Curtis Brothers Band and performs across multiple styles with the Diamond Empire Wedding & Corporate Band. In addition to live performance, Matthew operates a home studio and offers session recording services. He continues to develop his craft through ongoing study in improvisation under JP Bouvet, and also teaches private drum lessons at Butterscotch Music Studio in Longmont, Colorado.
